Indications FOILLE (Scalding) ® Alcohol Benzyl + Benzocaine + Clorixilenol

FOILLE ® is indicated for the treatment and dressing of skin lesions and skin irritation conditions such as irritation, burns, erythema and insect bites.

Mechanism of action FOILLE (Scalding) ® Alcohol Benzyl + Benzocaine + Clorixylenol

The therapeutic activity of FOILLE ® is associated with its active ingredients, with different and complementary biological properties, such as to extend the relative therapeutic indications to different morbid states.

More precisely :

  • Benzocaine is an active ingredient with local anesthetic activity, blocking the depolarization of nociceptive and motor nerve fibers, thereby inhibiting pain transmission at the central level.
  • Benzyl alcohol, on the other hand, is an aromatic organic compound, endowed with a marked antibacterial power against Gram positive bacteria, which gradually decreases against Gram negative yeast and fungus bacteria.

However, the bacteriostatic and partly bactericidal action preserves the damaged tissue from possible bacterial contamination.

  • Clorixilenol is an antiseptic and disinfectant active against bacteria, algae and fungi which, by altering what is the normal structure of the bacterial membrane, thus compromises vital capacities.

The topical use of these products allows to check their toxicity, considerably limiting the side effects that would result from their systemic use.

Studies carried out and clinical efficacy

ANESTHETIC EFFECTIVENESS OF BENZOCAINE

Indian J Dent Res. 2006 Oct-Dec; 17 (4): 155-60.

A study that demonstrates how Benzocaine-based gels can have a faster and more effective analgesic activity, guaranteeing effective symptomatology control even in dental practice.

BENZOCAINE AND METAEMOGLOBINOPATHY

Am J Cardiovasc Drugs. 2013 May 22. [Epub ahead of print]

A study that denounces one of the potential side effects linked to the topical use of Benzocaine, such as methaemoglobinopathy, often the cause of serious disorders such as to cause a significant increase in morbidity and mortality.

Therefore, extreme caution is recommended when using Benzocaine-based medicines

CHLOROXYLOXOL IN UROPATOGENIC INFECTIONS

Clin Microbiol Infect. 2008 Feb; 14 (2): 190-2. Epub 2007 Nov 28.

Interesting work that evaluates the preventive efficacy of Chloroxylenol against infections sustained by uropathogenic germs, in patients subjected to catheterization. Such prevention would be important in controlling one of the most widespread infections in hospitals
